The Maldives Police Service has stated that no individuals were injured by police actions during last night's protest, dismissing circulating reports as false information.
This clarification comes after MDP Member of Parliament for Galolhu South, Meekail Naseem, shared a post on X expressing deep concern and condemning what he described as the police's use of force during last night's activities.
Police Media stated today that they are aware of rumors claiming a person taken to the hospital from the protest area last night sustained injuries due to police measures.
"We wish to inform that there is no connection between any police actions taken to control the gathering and that individual's injury or condition. Contrary to the stories being spread, the police did not use force to control last night's gathering. We assure you that this was not caused by any measure taken by the police in relation to the protest," the statement read.
The police further noted that spreading false information undermines trust in state institutions and negatively impacts services provided to the public. They urged organizations, media, and the general public to verify the accuracy of information before sharing it.
