The Minister of Islamic Affairs and Endowments, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, has stated that a fair solution to the issues of negligence by companies taking people for Umrah can only be achieved through a specific law regarding the matter.
Minister Shaheem made this statement while responding to a question from the PNC member for Manadhoo constituency, Husnee Mubarak, during today's session of the People's Majlis. The member noted that even with changes to regulations and guidelines, no solution has been found for the negligence shown by Umrah travel agencies.
The Minister stated that the Islamic Ministry is currently working on drafting a law related to Hajj and Umrah affairs. He mentioned that within this law, the role of the Hajj Corporation will be fully defined, and the role of private companies will also be specified. The Minister further noted that the law will include legal measures that can be taken against such offenses.
Minister Shaheem said that Hajj and Umrah operations involve the highest interests of the citizens, and therefore, the cooperation of all members of the People's Majlis is required to draft and bring this law into existence.
