The mandates for media and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have been transferred back under the Home Ministry. This change was made following President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s decision to merge several ministries and reconstitute the cabinet.
The Home Ministry has now been renamed the Ministry of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology. Along with these changes, the ministry’s mandate has been revised, and the functions of nine agencies have been moved under its jurisdiction.
These are:
- Maldives Immigration
- Department of National Registration
- National Drug Agency
- Department of Juvenile Justice
- National Cyber Security Agency
- Labour Relations Authority
- Communications Authority of Maldives
- Maldives Digital Service
- National Careers Service
According to documents released by the President's Office, the Home Ministry is now responsible for determining policies to develop the Maldives' print and electronic media and providing opportunities for the advancement of the sector.
