A 41-year-old man has died while in police custody in Malé.

Police reported that Ahmed Navshad was found lying in a locked cell at the Malé Custodial facility and was immediately taken to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. He was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The case has been reported to the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and the National Integrity Commission.

Police stated that the incident is currently under investigation.
