A search operation has been launched for a Maldivian national reported missing after the vessel "Udhares" ran aground on a reef and subsequently sank near L. Olhuveli.
According to the Police, they received reports of the vessel, which was traveling from Malé to Ga. Villingili, sinking at approximately 1:25 AM last night.
The Police confirmed that there were a total of 13 people on board at the time of the incident.
Twelve individuals who were traveling on the boat have been rescued.
The Police further detailed that one expatriate on board managed to swim to Olhuveli Resort. The remaining 11 individuals were rescued by a boat from the resort.
The rescued group consists of two Maldivians and nine expatriates.
All 12 individuals are reported to be in good health.
However, the Police have not yet released any specific details regarding the Maldivian individual who remains missing.
Following the sinking of the vessel, a significant amount of cargo is currently drifting towards the western side of Olhuveli.
Consequently, the Police have urged all vessels navigating in the area to exercise extreme caution.
