The Ambassador of the Maldives to the United Arab Emirates, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), and the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices in Geneva, Dr. Salma Rasheed, have been dismissed from their positions today.
The President's Office Spokesperson, Heena Waleed, confirmed to "One" today that Mundhu and Salma were dismissed from their posts effective today.
Mundhu, a prominent figure who served in the senior leadership of the PPM before its dissolution and subsequently in the ruling PNC, is the son of Asma Rasheed, the PNC Member of Parliament for the Maafannu Central constituency. Dr. Salma is Asma's sister.
The government has not officially disclosed the reason behind their dismissal.
However, an audio recording of Asma Rasheed circulated on social media yesterday. In the recording, Asma is allegedly heard advising people not to vote for PNC candidates in the local council elections and suggesting they refrain from campaigning until they receive professional promotions.
Furthermore, in the same video, Asma purportedly claimed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu would be unable to win the next presidential election.
