The opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has won the presidency in five cities during the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections held yesterday.

According to interim results, MDP secured victories in Malé City, Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Thinadhoo City, and Kulhudhuffushi City.

The elected WDC presidents are:

  • Malé City – Aishath Reesha
  • Addu City – Fathimath Hijra
  • Fuvahmulah City – Mariyam Shiuna
  • Thinadhoo City – Mariyam Sharuna Adil
  • Kulhudhuffushi City – Aminath Ibrahim

The party also won mayoral positions in the same five cities during the local council elections held on Sunday.
