The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development has opened applications for student loans to support higher education and training in the Maldives and abroad.
The scheme covers programmes from Level 5 to Level 10 under the Maldives National Qualifications Framework, including professional licences, medical specialisations, and fellowships. Priority is given to fields listed under the National Training Needs List, focusing on key sectors for national development.
This year introduces several major changes. Applications will now remain open throughout the year, replacing fixed deadlines, and many fields will no longer have limited slots. The Ministry said this will expand access and ensure eligible students do not miss opportunities.
Students already enrolled can also apply for top-up loans if they are unable to complete their studies within the original timeframe. Loans will additionally cover mandatory internships required for professional registration.
Under the revised system, all applicants will apply through a single category, simplifying the process. Students must also secure placement and provide fee details before applying to speed up approval and disbursement.
Applications can be submitted online through the official portal with all required documents.
