First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has inaugurated a newly expanded Emergency Room (ER) and dialysis extension building at Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, marking a significant step in strengthening healthcare services in the atolls.

She was received upon arrival by the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Nazima Ali. During the ceremony, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim also laid the foundation stone for a new isolation facility.

The hospital is being upgraded to a tertiary-level facility as part of the government’s broader policy to enhance healthcare access nationwide. The newly expanded dialysis unit can now treat nine patients at once, while the upgraded ER includes six additional beds to improve emergency care capacity.

Plans for the new isolation facility include private rooms, a convertible quarantine area, and a large auditorium with seating for 800 people.

The event was attended by Cabinet Ministers, senior officials from the Ministry of Health, and hospital staff.
