Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has announced that five taxis from the government’s new fleet will operate in Vilimalé.
Speaking at the launch of BML’s affordable housing project event, Muththalib said the taxis—part of a 150-vehicle fleet—will include electric cars, supporting both environmental goals and improved transport access for residents.
The taxi service is being introduced under a government initiative led by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company(MTCC), which signed an agreement with the Transport Ministry in 2025. The service aims to address transport challenges and will operate 24 hours a day.
MTCC has already received initial shipments of electric vehicles, with more expected before the full launch of the Malé Taxi Line on April 2, 2026.
