Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has said Vilimalé will be transformed into a hub of opportunity by the end of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s term.

Speaking at BML’s affordable housing project ceremony, Muththalib said the island will see improvements in jobs, education, and healthcare, bringing it in line with Malé and Hulhumalé in terms of development and quality of life.

He noted that housing shortages have long been a major concern for residents, with many families struggling to expand homes or repay loans. The new housing projects, he said, aim to address these challenges and create opportunities for future generations.

Muththalib also defended the government’s decision to allow taller housing developments, stating it was necessary to meet the needs of a growing population.
