The Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has successfully completed the installation of a solar-powered water production system in Kulhudhuffushi City.
The completion of this milestone project was announced by MWSC Managing Director Abdul Matheen Mohamed in a post on X yesterday, marking World Water Day.
Matheen stated that the physical works of the project, which commenced last year to establish a water production system solely powered by solar energy without the use of diesel, have now reached completion.
He noted that upon the conclusion of the ongoing testing phase, Kulhudhuffushi will have the capacity to produce its entire required water supply without relying on diesel starting next month. This achievement marks the beginning of a new chapter in providing sustainable water services to inhabited islands across the Maldives.
"This is a significant advancement in the Maldives' journey towards sustainable development. I would like to express my gratitude to all parties who worked sincerely and assisted in achieving this success," Matheen's post read.
Matheen further highlighted that significant progress has been made in special government initiatives aimed at ensuring the security of water services.
He added that it is a key policy of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to design and establish water systems that maximize the use of the Maldives' natural resources, ensuring that citizens have a guaranteed water supply even amidst the challenges posed by climate change, natural disasters, and global conflicts.
