The Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, Mohamed Atif, has been placed under police protection following an attempted assault against him.
In a message shared with the media last night, the police stated that for the Mayor's safety, he had been escorted to the police station under their protection.
The police noted that further details would be shared as information is verified. However, they have not yet confirmed if anyone sustained injuries during the altercation or if any arrests have been made.
A source from Kulhudhuffushi informed "One" that the incident occurred while Mayor Atif was in a car with another individual. The confrontation reportedly took place between individuals of two opposing political ideologies. The source added that, despite the attempt, the Mayor was not physically harmed.
Atif is currently contesting for a second term as the Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City on the MDP ticket in the upcoming local council elections.
