Fuel prices have surged in Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, with diesel retailing at MVR 40 per liter and petrol at MVR 36 per liter.
A source from Kudahuvadhoo informed "One" that the current price for a liter of petrol is MVR 36.50, while diesel is priced at MVR 40.90 per liter.
He noted that previously, petrol was available on the island for MVR 18.49 per liter.
According to the source, fuel prices in Kudahuvadhoo are at record highs compared to other islands.
Fuel distribution in Kudahuvadhoo is managed by a private company.
Private businesses in several islands implemented price hikes following a notification from the state-owned Fuel Supplies Maldives (FSM) yesterday, indicating an increase in the wholesale price of fuel for businesses.
Despite FSM's decision, STO Media Official Yusuf Shah informed "One" last night that STO is working to establish arrangements ensuring that public ferries and transportation systems can continue to obtain fuel at previous rates.
He further clarified that under the "Fahi Hakatha" program, fishermen will continue to receive fuel at subsidized rates, and there have been no changes to the fuel prices at sheds in the Malé region.
Shah stated that STO would facilitate arrangements for affiliated sheds in the islands to obtain fuel at the former rates. These measures are being taken to ensure that the public can access petrol and diesel without facing an undue financial burden.
