Moosa Zameer, Maldives’ Minister of Finance, has announced that Eid lights will not be installed in islands this year as part of measures to reduce spending amid the economic impact of the conflict involving Iran following airstrikes by the United States and Israel.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, Zameer said the cabinet decided that Eid decorations will only be installed in cities.
The minister said the government is taking several steps to reduce expenditure while ensuring that public services continue without disruption.
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has also called for measures to address potential economic difficulties facing the Maldives due to the ongoing conflict.
