The permanent registry of individuals eligible to vote in the Local Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections, as well as the public referendum on combining the parliamentary and presidential elections, has been released.
The window for changing voting locations for the Local Council and WDC elections opened on the 10th of last month. Additionally, re-registration for the referendum on synchronizing the two elections began on the 18th and concluded on the 22nd of last month.
The Elections Commission (EC) published the final list of eligible voters for the Local Council and WDC elections, along with the public referendum, last night. The registry is now available in the Government Gazette and on the official website of the Elections Commission.
Following the passage of the "Bill on the 8th Amendment to the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives" during the parliamentary session on the 10th of this month, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu issued a decree on the 18th to hold a public referendum before ratifying the bill. The amendment aims to facilitate concurrent presidential and parliamentary elections and establish rules for determining the duration of the parliamentary term.
The Local Council and WDC elections, along with the public referendum, are scheduled to be held on the 4th of next month.
