A 22-year-old Maldivian man has died while in prison in Thailand, police said.

In a message to the media today, police confirmed that Ibrahim Nabeeh Naseem, who had been detained in Thailand in connection with a drug case, passed away while in custody.

Nabeeh was arrested at Don Mueang International Airport.

Police said they are working with the relevant authorities to investigate the incident. No further details, including information about any injuries, were disclosed.
