Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim, Minister of Health, says discussions are continuing with relevant authorities to determine medicine prices under the Aasandha scheme.
Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, the minister said a final date for setting prices for all medicines has not yet been decided.
He explained that the government is currently establishing maximum retail prices for certain medicines under a controlled pricing system. However, work is still ongoing to introduce price limits for the entire list of medicines covered by the scheme.
“I am not sure if we will be able to complete the entire list at this time,” the minister said.
Medicine price controls were first introduced in 2022. The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has already decided to regulate the prices of 250 medicines under the Aasandha scheme starting in November 2024.
