Minister of Housing, Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib has announced that efforts have begun to provide housing for families living in congested conditions in Malé.

Speaking at a press conference at the President’s Office, the Minister said some homes in Malé are so narrow that only one person can pass through at a time, with no proper ventilation. He noted that many families continue to live in extremely congested spaces that are not fit for human habitation.

According to the Minister, previous government housing projects have not resolved the difficulties faced by families living on very small plots of land. He said the government now plans to individually identify vulnerable families, assess and document their living conditions, and prioritize them for housing assistance.

Minister Dr Muththalib emphasized that instead of relying solely on general application policies, a special approach is needed to ensure these families are relocated and provided with a permanent solution.
