The Civil Court has ruled that legal ownership of Athama Plaza belongs to former Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir.
Jabir purchased the property in 2010 for MVR 14 million. However, the property’s registry has been under the name of Ismail Abdul Latheef, owner of Maleesha Hajj Group, who later put the proper up for sale following a court-ordered sale to settle a debt. At the time, Ismail had informed the court that selling the house was the only way to repay the debt.
Jabir was initially dismissed from the case due to lack of evidence but later refiled a case seeking legal ownership of the building. He also filed a complaint with the police, alleging deception in the transaction.
In its latest ruling, the Civil Court declared that Athama Plaza belongs to Jabir and ordered Ismail Abdul Latheef to complete all legal procedures to transfer the property registry to Jabir’s name within two months.
