The celebrated Maldivian film director and actor, Ahmed Nimal, has passed away today.
Nimal was first admitted to ADK Hospital on December 31st of last year after suffering a stroke. He was later transferred to Dharumavantha Hospital for further medical care.
IGMH informed "One" that 62-year-old Nimal passed away at approximately 6:50 AM today while receiving treatment.
While Nimal was widely recognized as an actor, he was also a multi-talented artist who excelled as a director, editor, writer, and producer.
Among the films he directed, popular titles such as Zalzala, Vaa Loabi Engeynama, and Halaas gained significant acclaim among the Maldivian audience. Furthermore, Nimal was a beloved artist who won the hearts of viewers through his frequent portrayals of father figures in numerous films.
Some of his most notable acting roles include performances in Veeraana, Niuma, Mihashin Furana Dhandhen, and Neyngi Yaaru Vakivee. His last major role was in the 2023 release Loabivevijje. In recognition of his immense contributions to the Maldivian film industry, Nimal was honored with the National Award of Encouragement in 1991.
