A 16-year-old boy has lost his life following a dangerous accident that occurred near the Sinamalé Bridge late last night.

The Maldives Police Service reported today that the incident, involving a motorcycle speeding near the bridge traffic lights on Boduthakurufaanu Magu, was reported at 1:39 AM. The motorcycle reportedly lost control and mounted the pavement.

At the time of the accident, both the 19-year-old male driver and the 16-year-old male passenger sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Both individuals involved are Maldivian males. Tragically, the 16-year-old, who was riding pillion, succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care.

According to the police, the 19-year-old operating the motorcycle did not possess a valid Category 'A' driving license.

The police have confirmed that a thorough investigation into the accident is currently underway.
