Two individuals have been apprehended in possession of more than three kilograms of illicit drugs.

The Maldives Police Service stated that a specialized operation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department in collaboration with Counter Narcotics Intelligence, following intelligence reports concerning the possession and trafficking of narcotics. This joint effort led to the seizure of the substances and the arrest of two suspects.

During the operation conducted yesterday, authorities searched two vehicles and discovered over three kilograms of suspected narcotics.

The individuals taken into custody in connection with this case are Hanif (36), a Bangladeshi national, and Azhad Naseem (28) of Feiyaathoshivilla, GA. Maamendhoo.

Upon being presented before the court to determine their remand status, the court ordered Hanif to be detained for five days, while Azhad Naseem was remanded for a period of 15 days.

The police have confirmed that the investigation into this matter is currently ongoing.
