Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has announced that official Taraweeh prayers will be conducted in prison mosques for the first time.

In a post on X yesterday, the service stated that Hafizes (those who have memorized the Quran) have been arranged to lead the prayers and conduct religious sessions for inmates and detainees.

MCS currently manages a total of three prisons: Hulhumalé Prison, Maafushi Prison, and Asseyri Prison in Himmafushi.

In conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan, MCS, in collaboration with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, has also conducted religious counseling sessions for officers at Maafushi and Asseyri prisons.

Furthermore, on the 15th of this month, a special event was held for inmates at Hulhumalé Prison, allowing them to spend quality time with their families in a pleasant atmosphere to mark the occasion of Ramadan. MCS noted that during this event, certificates of appreciation were awarded to inmates who actively participated in the construction of the new MCS headquarters.
