Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen has announced his retirement from the post, though he has not disclosed the reason for his decision.
Naveen assumed office in June last year after the sudden resignation of his predecessor, Ali Shujau, in April 2025. Neither Naveen nor the police service have provided further details to the media regarding his departure.
Deputy Commissioner Farhad Fikri and Assistant Commissioner Ahmed Shameem have expressed interest in the appointment of a new commissioner. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who appointed Naveen to the role, said the government has not yet taken action on the matter.
Naveen’s retirement comes as the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has recommended the suspension of seven senior police officers, including Naveen, over alleged corruption linked to Polco. The People’s Majlis has not yet made a final decision.
