A man suspected of being a key figure in scams conducted through Facebook Marketplace has been taken into custody.

The individual, identified as Nadeef Mohamed (36) of Rankokaage, GA. Gemanafushi, was arrested under a court order on the 11th of this month.

According to the police, a search conducted following his arrest led to the seizure of several cash cards, SIM cards, mobile phones, as well as a quantity of Maldivian Rufiyaa and US Dollars.

"Nadeef Mohamed was arrested in connection with a case where he allegedly defrauded an individual by claiming to sell goods on Facebook, induced them to transfer money to a third party's account, and subsequently withdrew those funds. He is suspected of being repeatedly involved in organizing and executing such scams, as well as collecting proceeds from scam networks," the police stated.

The police further noted that when presented before the court for a remand hearing, he was ordered to be detained for a period of five days.

The case is currently being investigated by the Anti-Scam Center.
