Criminal Court has ordered Ali Mohamed, from Kulhudhuffushi City, to pay a fine of MVR 115,200 for injuring a man in a traffic accident that occurred in Malé City seven years ago.
The accident took place on June 26, 2018, in the Industrial Zone. Ali Mohamed was riding a motorcycle at high speed when it collided with another motorcycle traveling from east to west. The victim, Ibrahim Waseem, sustained serious head injuries.
Ali Mohamed was charged with causing injury. He entered into a plea agreement, which the court accepted. Under the agreement, he was sentenced to one year, seven months, and six days in prison, but the sentence was commuted to a fine of MVR 115,200.
The court ordered that the fine be paid to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) within 24 months.
