The Parliamentary Group Leader of the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) and Campaign Manager for the upcoming council elections, Ibrahim Falah, has stated that the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) follows policies that are alien to the tenets of Islam.

Speaking at a ceremony held in Addu City tonight to launch the campaign for PNC candidates, Falah noted that when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu delivered this year's Presidential Address and spoke on religious matters, MDP members responded by blowing whistles.

"This alone demonstrates that the MDP is a group that maintains policies very distant and alien to the religion of Islam," Falah remarked.

Falah further asserted that every time the MDP comes to power, it causes harm to the nation. He pointed out that during the MDP’s first term, they sold off Velana International Airport.

"By the end of the last administration, every school in the Maldives was mortgaged to secure loans. The loans they took ended up in their own pockets. There is a vast difference between the MDP and our ideology," Falah said.

He added that no genuine development projects were conducted during the previous government, stating that the only things visible were the "pegs" (foundation markers) placed just for the presidential election.

Noting that the MDP has held the majority in Addu City councils since their inception, Falah argued that the city's development remains at a very low level. He concluded by saying that the city can only overcome this situation by electing a PNC-led council to work alongside the government.
