The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported that 111 individuals were registered in the National Cancer Registry last year.

In conjunction with World Cancer Day, which is observed tomorrow, the HPA has released data on the number of people registered in the cancer registry over the past five years. The highest number of registrations was recorded in 2022, with 244 individuals added to the registry that year, according to HPA statistics.

Registration numbers for the past five years:

2020: 137 people2021: 208 people2022: 244 people2023: 211 people2024: 195 people2025: 111 peopleLast year, the HPA noted that the total number of individuals in the registry stood at 1,617. However, the total has now reached 1,964 as of this year, marking an increase of 347 people within a single year.

The HPA has previously stated that 57 percent of the individuals in the cancer registry are women.

The systematic collection of data on patients receiving cancer treatment at IGMH and Hulhumalé Hospital commenced in 2019.
