An inmate at the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) Hulhumale’ Prison has passed away while undergoing medical treatment.
Corrections authorities said the deceased was 53-year-old Ibrahim Suhail. He died at 9:05 a.m. at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), where he had been receiving treatment for the past week.
According to the Maldives Correctional Service, the inmate died from pneumonia. He had previously been diagnosed with a stroke in 2025.
Corrections said the family of the deceased has been informed, along with the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives and the National Integrity Commission.
