The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has provided temporary housing to 85 individuals from 18 apartments following a fire incident at the fifth tower of the Hiyaa flats in Hulhumalé.

Yesterday, a fire broke out in Hiyaa Flat Tower H-5 in Hulhumalé Phase 2, leading to the evacuation of the entire tower.

NDMA stated today that the fire caused significant damage to the sewage pipelines of 38 apartments within the tower. In response to the incident, the authority has provided emergency shelter and catering services to 85 affected residents.

Following the incident, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has commenced efforts to assess and repair the damage caused to the sanitation system. NDMA further noted that they are working closely with HDC to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation and identify any additional requirements.
