Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA)’s Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Ismail Sajid, has been dismissed from his post after being found guilty of sexual harassment.

Sajid confirmed to One Online that he had been informed of the decision and said he would appeal the conviction. “I have been dismissed and the decision will be appealed on my behalf,” he said.

Sajid was appointed as head of the FIU on 3 August 2025. He assumed the role after Abdulla Ashraf, the former head of the Maldives Monetary Authority’s FIU, was appointed head of Risk and Compliance.

Ashraf’s appointment followed the leak of an FIU report alleging corruption and illicit wealth accumulation by Baarah MP Ibrahim Shujau.
