The Criminal Court has sentenced a man convicted of trafficking cannabis to more than 12 years in prison and fined him MVR 50,000.
According to the court, Ibrahim Riznee was sentenced on Sunday after being found guilty of the charge. He had been arrested by police in connection with drug possession and cannabis trafficking and had pleaded not guilty during the trial.
The court sentenced him to 12 years and six months in prison and ordered him to pay a fine of MVR 50,000. The fine is to be paid to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) within 12 months.
