Distribution of canned tuna cases, the government’s Ramadan gift to households, will begin in the Male’ area on Saturday. As in previous years, each household will receive a 48-can case. The distribution task force announced that individuals must obtain a token number before collecting the gift, with registration opening today through roadhahadhiya.mv.
Distribution in the Male’ area will take place daily except Fridays, between 8:30pm and 11:00pm, and authorities aim to complete distribution to all households by February 11. A total of 15 distribution centres have been set up, including eight in Male’, six in Hulhumale’, and one in Vilimale’.
Last year, the government distributed 118,673 canned tuna cases nationwide. This included 56,918 cases to households in Male’ and 60,755 across the atolls. This year, STO is handling transport to islands and cities, with local councils managing distribution in those areas.
In addition to the tuna can gift, the President has announced a special Ramadan discount on household electricity bills. Under the scheme, domestic-rate households will receive electricity bills capped at MVR 400. According to the calendar, Ramadan is expected to begin on February 18.
