The Drug Enforcement Department, in collaboration with Counter-Narcotics Intelligence, has arrested two individuals following an operation in Malé that led to the seizure of a large quantity of illicit drugs.
According to the Police, the suspects arrested in connection with this case are 36-year-old Amjad Rigab from Bulaafaru, Ga. Vilingili, and 28-year-old Mohamed Naif from Morningstar, Sh. Noomara.
The operation, conducted last Tuesday under a court warrant, involved a search of a residence in the Galolhu district. Authorities recovered a substantial amount of narcotics along with a significant sum of Maldivian Rufiyaa. The preliminary weight of the seized drugs is recorded at 266.29 grams.
Upon being produced before the court to determine their remand status, the court ordered Amjad to be detained for five days, while Mohamed Naif was ordered to remain in custody until the conclusion of the trial.
The Maldives Police Service is currently conducting a further investigation into the matter.
