The Criminal Court has postponed today’s sentencing hearing against former Managing Director of Maldive Gas, Abdulla Maumoon, who faces five bribery-related charges.
The hearing had been scheduled for 11:30 a.m. but was cancelled due to administrative reasons. No new date has been announced.
The State had earlier charged Maumoon with multiple offences, including bribery, abuse of power, conspiracy to commit a crime and misuse of official influence. He is accused of accepting a bribe amounting to MVR 3.1 million from a foreign company in connection with the purchase of liquefied petroleum gas.
Maumoon was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Criminal Court on 29 September 2025. The sentence was appealed at the High Court on 12 December 2025, where the case remains at the submission stage.
The court has also ordered the recovery of MVR 3,106,189 in connection with the case.
