The Maldives played their third match of the SAFF Futsal Championship in Thailand on Monday, continuing their strong run in the tournament.
After earlier wins over Pakistan (7–1) and Bangladesh (6–1), the Maldives defeated India in their third match to maintain a 100 per cent record. The team has now won all three matches, collecting nine points and scoring 18 goals so far.
Mohamed Imran opened the scoring to give the Maldives an early lead. India applied pressure in the first half, but the Maldives defended well. In the second half, goals from Abdulla Shafiu and Ali Shamaal Abdulla extended the lead. Imran added his second goal of the match, while Ahmed Hameed scored the final goal.
Goalkeeper Zaidan Ahmed played a key role in stopping India’s attacks, especially during their power play.
With three wins from three matches, the Maldives sit at the top of the standings with a two-point lead, having played one match fewer than some of their rivals.
