The Jumhooree Party (JP) has officially decided to support candidates from the People's National Congress (PNC) in the Local Council Elections scheduled for next April.

This decision was reached during a council meeting held yesterday. Presided over by JP Leader and Maamigili Constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim, the motion to endorse PNC candidates for the April 4th elections was passed with 18 votes in favor. However, 12 members voted against the motion, as confirmed to "One" by a member of the JP Council.

Following this decision, it was also resolved that the Jumhooree Party will only field its own candidates within the Maamigili constituency, the home base of party leader Qasim Ibrahim.

Since President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assumed office, Qasim Ibrahim has been a vocal supporter of the current administration.

The Elections Commission opened the window for nominations for the Local Council Elections last Saturday. The ruling PNC has expressed its intention to contest for all available seats in the upcoming elections.
