Two Sri Lankan nationals have been taken into custody following a physical altercation at Velana International Airport (VIA).

The individuals arrested in connection with the incident are 46-year-old Priyantha Silva Devaniththige and 43-year-old Thilak Somachandra Maddethalage.

Following their arrest, the suspects were produced before the Criminal Court yesterday to determine their remand status. The court has ordered both individuals to be detained for a period of 15 days.

According to the court order, both men are employed in professional capacities. The document further highlights that the altercation took place in the presence of a large number of people at the airport.

Legal counsel representing the suspects maintained that the incident occurred without any prior criminal intent.
