The People’s National Congress (PNC)'s mayoral candidate has officially opened a campaign space for the upcoming local council elections.
The campaign facility was inaugurated by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef. The opening marks the start of campaign activities by PNC, which has now selected its candidates and says it is working to secure a win in the elections.
Former Chief of Defence Force and former Defence Minister Moosa Ali Jaleel is contesting as the PNC’s candidate for Mayor of Malé City. Adam Azim is contesting the mayoral race on behalf of MDP.
The Elections Commission (EC) said a total of 294,937 people are eligible to vote in the local council elections and women’s development committee elections. According to the EC, this includes 144,527 women and 150,410 men.
The EC has published the list of eligible voters and opened a period for submitting complaints. The elections are scheduled to be held on 4 April.
