President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has established the Maldives Digital Service under the administrative oversight of the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, following the dissolution of the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT).

The new agency was formed and the NCIT abolished under Article 116(a) of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives. The decision was announced today through a directive issued by the President’s Office.

The move follows Cabinet discussions held on 25 September 2025 on the government’s Digital-First Nation vision. The Maldives Digital Service has been designated as the main executive body responsible for implementing the Maldives 2.0 Roadmap 2025–2028: Journey to Digital Transformation.

The agency will take over all responsibilities previously handled by the NCIT, while also leading the implementation of the national digital transformation roadmap.

Under Presidential Directive No. 4/2026, the number 1137 has been assigned for official correspondence with the Maldives Digital Service.
