Maldives Airports Company Limited has announced that 55 hectares of land have been reclaimed under the Hulhumale’ Phase 3 land reclamation project, with 87 percent of the work now completed.

The Phase 3 reclamation project resumed on November 10, 2025, after earlier delays caused by the suspension of work by the contractor. To speed up progress, an additional dredger was brought in, and reclamation work has continued at an accelerated pace since late November.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the Hulhumale’ Phase 3 reclamation will be completed by the end of the month, with land plots expected to be handed over soon after. He also said that once the project is completed, dredgers will move on to begin reclamation work at Giraavarulhu, which is expected to be finished within three months.

MACL has also confirmed that reclamation work is underway at Rasmale’, using one of the world’s largest trailer suction hopper dredgers. The Rasmale’ reclamation project began on August 1 and is expected to be completed by March or April next year.
