Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has announced plans to establish a general practitioner (GP) clinic at the former Thalassemia Centre in Henveiru.

According to a notice published in the Gazette, IGMH is seeking a party to undertake the demolition of the former Thalassemia Centre to make way for the Henveiru GP Clinic. Bids for the project will be accepted until 15 November.

Chief Executive Officer of the Malé City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, said work on setting up the Henveiru GP clinic is expected to begin soon. He added that efforts are also underway to complete the GP clinic planned for Hulhumalé Phase II.

The government has decided to establish six GP clinics under IGMH to reduce long waiting times for patients. One of these clinics has already been opened in Maafannu.
