Judge Huzaifa Mohamed has been appointed as the High Court Appeal Judge for Parliament.
The High Court announced on X that Judge Huzaifa will be appointed under the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Act in 2026. Under the JSC Act, a special appeal committee of judges must be appointed each judicial year to hear appeals in cases involving judges. The Act also requires the Chief Judicial Administrator to notify the applicant.
Judge Huzaifa holds a Bachelor of Law obtained in 2005 and a Master of Comparative Law obtained in 2006 from the International Islamic University of Malaysia.
Before her appointment to the High Court, Judge Huzaifa served as the Chief Judge of the Family Court and previously worked as a judge at the Family Court and Juvenile Court. She is one of the first two female judges appointed to the post in the Maldives.
Judge Huzaifa was first appointed to the judiciary on July 11, 2007, and took her oath of office for the High Court on June 27, 2022.
