The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has announced plans to distribute 118,000 cases of canned tuna as Ramadan gifts this year.

MIFCO said work is currently underway to complete the packaging of the canned tuna, with the process expected to be finished by Thursday next week. Distribution of the cases is scheduled to begin next month.

The company stated that 118,000 cases were packaged in November and that efforts are being made to complete the work without disrupting other production activities. Some of the fish cans prepared for Ramadan have already been transported to HDh. Atoll and are being stored at Kulhudhuffushi Port and Addu Hithadhoo Port. More than 30,000 cases have been stored in these locations to support smoother distribution.

During the previous Ramadan, a total of 111,231 cases of canned tuna were distributed, including 50,519 cases to households in Malé City and 60,712 cases to households in the islands.

The distribution of canned tuna as Ramadan gifts is being carried out under the decision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
