High Court Judge Hassan Shafeeu has been appointed as a member of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

Although Judge Shafeeu was elected to the JSC, his formal appointment will be made by the President, in line with legal procedures.

Judge Shafeeu replaces High Court Judge Mohamed Niyaz, who previously served on the JSC and has now retired from the judiciary.

Judge Shafeeu holds a Bachelor of Law (LLB) from the Maldives College of Higher Education and a Master of Comparative Law from the International Islamic University of Malaysia.

He was appointed to the High Court on October 4, 2020, and also served as one of the High Court judges sitting on the Court of Appeal for a period of one year. Judge Shafeeu began his judicial career on October 27, 2013, when he was appointed as a judge of the Family Court.
