Extraordinary Parliamentary Sitting Scheduled for Tomorrow During Recess
A sitting of the People’s Majlis has been scheduled for tomorrow. As the parliament is currently in recess, tomorrow's session will be held as an extraordinary sitting.
The first item on the agenda for tomorrow is to forward the President’s nomination for the appointment of the President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) to the relevant permanent committee for review and decision.
Following this, the agenda includes the first reading of two bills being introduced to the Majlis: an amendment to the Penal Code, submitted by the Member for Hithadhoo Central constituency, Ahmed Azaan Marzooq, on behalf of the government; and an amendment to the Pension Act, submitted by the Member for Milandhoo constituency, Hassan Mufeed Abdul Qaadir.
Additionally, the first reading of a bill to amend the Constitution, submitted by the Member for Inguraidhoo constituency, Ibrahim Falah, on behalf of the government, is also on the agenda.
The preliminary debates on these bills are scheduled to follow the first readings.
The People’s Majlis went into its annual recess on the 3rd of last December after concluding work on fifteen bills.
According to the Majlis standing orders, the sittings for the first session of the year are set to commence on the 1st of February. However, extraordinary sittings can be convened outside of the regular sessions.
