The Elections Commission has announced plans to train around 7,000 officials who will serve at polling stations for the upcoming local council and women’s development committee elections.

As part of the preparations, the Commission has launched a Training of Trainers programme. The programme is being held at the Centre for Higher Secondary Education in Malé City until January 9 and includes 95 trainers from across the country. Representatives from the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives are also participating.

The training is designed to prepare election officials working at polling stations in Malé, across the atolls, and overseas. It focuses on ensuring that voting and vote counting are conducted in line with existing laws and regulations, while also providing the necessary academic and technical knowledge to manage the election process.

According to the Elections Commission, training sessions for voter officials in Malé and the atolls will begin on Sunday, January 11.
