The Maldives has extended a warm welcome to its first visitor of the newly commenced year, 2026.
The honor of being the year's first passenger was accorded to Thomas Andrew Hellweger, a 54-year-old German national, who arrived via Etihad Airways.
Thomas traveled to the Maldives accompanied by his wife, marking their first visit to the country.
To celebrate his arrival, a special ceremony was held today at the arrival area of Velana International Airport (VIA). During the event, Thomas was welcomed on behalf of MACL by Ali Mushtaq, Deputy Chief Officer of Passenger Services.
As part of the festivities, MACL presented Thomas with a special commemorative gift.
MACL stated that its consistent objective remains to provide the most comprehensive and highest standard of service to all airlines operating to the Maldives and to every passenger utilizing the airport's facilities.
