Ismail Sajid, the head of the Maldives Monetary Authority's (MMA) Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), has been suspended.

Sajid confirmed this to "One" today, stating that he was instructed to "stay home" last Thursday.

He added that no further details could be provided at this time.

Sajid was appointed as the head of the FIU on August 3rd of this year.

His transfer to this position followed the reassignment of the previous head of MMA's Financial Intelligence Unit, Abdulla Ashraf, to the role of Head of Risk and Compliance.

Ashraf's change in designation occurred after a report prepared by the MMA's Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), which contained allegations of corruption and illicit enrichment against Baarashu constituency MP and PNC Vice President Ibrahim Shujaau, was leaked.
